The Agricultural University of Athens (AUA) is the 3rd oldest university in Greece and contributed since 1920, consistently and continuously to Greek and European primary sector development, by conducting basic and applied research in agricultural related sciences. The University is situated on a green campus that straddles close to the Acropolis, at the heart of the ancient Olive Grove. The extensive agricultural facilities consists of an arboretum, vineyard, experimental fields, flower garden, greenhouses, cowshed, sheep pen, chicken coop, dairy installations, aquaculture tanks. AUA research funding schemes come from the private sector as well EU and Greek research projects. In particular, in the last 4 years AUA has participated, as a leader or partner in 53 EU projects to address a wide range of issues related to food safety and environmental protection. AUA team in INNOSETA will be structured by 2 departments, each one covering a different topic of the project. More particularly, the Precision Agriculture Group (PAG) of the Department of Natural Resources Management & Agricultural Engineering will be involved in the SETA part of the project, while Extension Services Group (ESG) of the Department of Agricultural Economics & Rural Development will cover the agricultural knowledge & information systems (AKIS) section of INNOSETA.
SHORT BIO ORGANIZATION
Seta Relation
Due to its significant position in both agricultural machinery and rural development AUA has tremendous relevant expertise for the INNOSETA project. PAG-AUA coordinates the H2020 Smart-AKIS thematic network on innovation-driven research in smart farming technologies (03/2016-08/2018). AUA, also, coordinates the H2020 GATES project for the development of training game technologies for precision agriculture adoption in the EU (01/2017- 06/2019), and participates in two H2020 projects in the field of precision agriculture as partner, namely IoF2020 (01/2017 – 12/2020) and APOLLO (05/2016 – 01/2019). PAG has been involved in the coordination and successful implementation of the Farm of the Future project (FP7, KBBE 20017-1) and it participated in 2 relative ICT-AGRI projects with emphasis on the application of robotics and precision farming technologies in agriculture (RoboFarm and USERPA). Members of the team have participated in several National R&D programs on the application of novel / smart technologies in agriculture and in several European and bilateral programs (AGRI-LINK, AgriDemo, WISE, AGRISPIN, PRO-AKIS, CORASON, LEARNing, ISDEMA, DIVOR-DEF). Also, the PAG-AUA runs experiments concerning spraying applications and spray drift assessment.
