SHORT BIO ORGANIZATION

The Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya – BarcelonaTech (UPC) is a public institution with a vocation to serve society. It offers broad higher education in a wide range of technical, artistic and humanistic fields. Under H2020 programme, UPC has been granted 87 projects, coordinating 29. Besides H2020, UPC also has 14 projects funded by other European programmes. All of these projects have a total EU financial contribution of 39.8m €.
The Group of Agricultural Machinery is located at the School of Agricultural Engineering of Barcelona building (ESAB) in the Baix Llobregat Campus (Mediterranean Technology Park – PMT) and has its agricultural mechanization laboratory located at Agropolis, the newly build scientific park of UPC.

It’s director, Prof. Dr. Emilio Gil is a member of the EIP-AGRI Focus Group Mainstreaming Precision Farming and he is the Spanish responsible of the TOPPS project, where the operators are trained to promote Best Practices & Sustainability. He is currently the coordinator of the H2020 Innoseta (N. 773718) as well as the Erasmus + Project AgrCT ( 2018-1-ES01-KA202-050709) and the principal investigator at UPC of the H2020 OPTIMA project (N. 773864) and LIFE-PERFECT (LIFE17 ENV/ES/000205).

Seta Relation

In the context of the agricultural machinery, the Group carries out three types of activities: teaching, research and technology transfer. The Group has a close relationship with the major companies of agricultural machinery sector. UMA research group has arranged several contracts and collaboration agreements with the most important pesticide and sprayer companies as BayerCropScience, Syngenta Iberia, S.A., Belchim, BASF, Pulverizadores, FEDE, ANSEMAT, Kenogard. Also, other private companies as FERROVIAL have developed agreements with UMA in the last years. Finally, UMA is involved in public projects to improve the plant protection product treatments in vineyards and fruit crops (TOPPS-LIFE, LIFE FITOVID, OPTIDOSA, SAFESPRAY, AGVANCE). UMA is also involved in several European projects as H2020 – OPTIMA (Ref.: 773718) and LIFE-PERFECT, both research projects focused on spray application technology. Professor Emilio Gil is also training coordinator of BTSF (Better Training for Safer Food) in charge of Chafea/2014/BTSF/02: Organisation and implementation of training activities on inspection and calibration of pesticide application equipment in professional use under the Better Training for Safer Food initiative.

Main responsible of UMA has been involved in EIP-FOCUS GROUP on Precision Farming, and leads the organization of official mandatory training courses for inspectors of sprayers in use, according to Sustainable Use Directive.
